Fred Stawitz, a award-winning teacher, was recruited by the American Space Shuttle program following the Challenger explosion to develop a technical training program for the engineers who design space shuttle flights. Invited to speak at STEAM/EX by NAYTEA, he addressed the connection between the education community and business. As business executives around the globe eagerly eye the benefits of implementing the New Digital Age technologies, they’re finding a definite lack of talent with the required competencies. This situation presents a challenge to the education community to ramp up the preparation of graduates familiar with these technologies who will guide the operation of these new SMART Enterprises. he says, SMART Enterprises require SMART Students taught by SMART Teachers using SMART Curriculum. This becomes increasingly important as society approaches the next next major disruption—what Stawitz calls the Cognitive Human-Machine Age.
